Assistant Principal

Mara Poltaruk has been a valued leader in Parkland School Division’s Student Services department since 2018, and she now brings her deep expertise in inclusive education to her new role as Assistant Principal at École Broxton Park School. In her current role, she has led capacity-building initiatives such as the development of a robust lending library of instructional kits and a professional development series specifically designed for Educational Assistants, entitled Supporting Diverse Learning Needs.

Mara began her teaching career with the Calgary Board of Education, where from 2005 to 2013 she held a variety of specialized roles including Special Education Teacher, Health Teacher, and Remedial Math Teacher for Grades 1 and 2. Her passion for supporting diverse learners led her to become a Behaviour Coach with the Regional Collaborative Service Delivery (RCSD) team from 2015 to 2018, where she worked across school communities to address complex behavioural needs.

Mara earned her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta in 2004 and recently completed her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Calgary in 2019.

"I believe students should always be at the centre of everything we do in education. Whether designing inclusive programming, supporting staff, or refining school-wide systems, I am committed to ensuring every learner has access to high-quality, meaningful learning experiences. I’m excited to continue this work in a school leadership role and to champion a culture of collaboration, equity, and student success at École Broxton Park."
