Black History Month
Rachael Smillie was born and raised in Edmonton. She attended French Immersion from Kindergarten-Gr. 9, and continued her education in French throughout high school as well as in University. Rachael earned 2 degrees at Concordia University of Edmonton, where she completed an Arts Degree in Sociology and French as well as an after degree in Elementary Education. While studying at Concordia, Rachael competed on the cross country, indoor track and badminton teams. Throughout her 5 years of eligibility Rachael attended 6 national championships and earned 2 CCAA bronze medals and a silver medal. Rachael was named Concordia’s Female athlete of the Year and the ACAC Badminton player of the Year in 2015 and also earned a CCAA All-Canadian award, and numerous ACAC all-conference awards. Rachael now coaches the badminton team at Concordia, and is a teacher at École Broxton Park school.
