ANNOUNCEMENTS - THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16

    Black History Month 

    Marie Isidore is a French immersion teacher at  Broxton Park School.  She holds a B.Ec from the University of Montreal, as well as an after degree in Education. She is writing her thesis towards a Master's degree in Canadian Studies at the University of Alberta with a research focus on Franco-Caribbean storytelling. She has received several awards and scholarships such as the Roger Smith Award for Undergraduate Student Research, the Edmonton Academic Award from the Canadian Federation of University Women, the Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship, the Honourable Lucien Dubuc Memorial Graduate Scholarship for her superior academic achievement. Marie has been a volunteer with RECHED (Edmonton Haitian Network) for the past 5 years and her contribution to the development of materials has enhanced young students' interest in math and science. 

    Marie is the co-founder of the social enterprise KAYANOU (OUR HOUSE) which works on the development of educational resources for children for a better knowledge of the history of  black francophones in Alberta. In November 2022, KAYANOU established a cross-sectoral committee to work with Alberta Education and school boards on the addition of content related to Black Francophone history and contribution to the Alberta Curriculum.
